Handmade cabinetry, fitted furniture, staircases, timber windows & doors crafted to fit your space exactly by local master craftsmen.

Joinery
Handmade and installed to standard profiles.
Handmade joinery,
designed and built around your home.
There's a world of difference between fitted furniture bought off a shelf and joinery made for a specific room, in a specific home, by hand. Crawford Construction is a team of skilled joiners producing bespoke joinery across Oxford and Oxfordshire — cabinetry, fitted furniture, staircases, doors, windows and architectural detailing, crafted to fit your space exactly and finished to a standard that lasts a lifetime.
From a run of alcove bookcases in a Victorian terrace to a hand-built staircase in a new home, or replacement sash windows for a listed property, we design, make and install joinery that looks like it was always meant to be there. No awkward filler panels, no compromises on fit — just considered, characterful woodwork.

Architectural and heritage joinery
Oxfordshire is full of period and listed properties where standard, off-the-shelf joinery simply won't do. We specialise in matching original mouldings, profiles and detailing — replicating cornices, architraves, panelled doors and box sash windows so that repairs and additions are indistinguishable from the originals.
Where work is to a listed building or within a conservation area, this sympathetic, accurate approach is exactly what's required, and we work with the right traditional materials and methods to satisfy it.
Materials and craftsmanship
We work in solid hardwoods and quality timbers — oak, walnut, ash, sapele and tulipwood, Accoya and Douglas fir for durable external joinery, and furniture-grade MDF for flawless hand-painted finishes.
Joints are made to last, and pieces are finished in our workshop — sprayed or hand-painted, including in heritage colours from ranges such as Farrow & Ball and Little Greene — before being installed cleanly in your home. The result combines traditional craftsmanship with the precision of a properly equipped workshop.

Frequently asked questions
Common questions homeowners ask about timber selection, matching, and lead times in Oxford.
Bespoke joinery is designed and made specifically for your room and your requirements — so it fits awkward walls, sloping ceilings and period alcoves exactly, with no filler panels or compromises. Showroom furniture is built to standard sizes and adapted to fit, which rarely suits older Oxfordshire homes well.
It costs more than flat-pack, but you're paying for a perfect fit, quality materials and craftsmanship that lasts decades rather than years — and it's tailored to maximise your space and add value to the home. We provide a clear, itemised, fixed-price quote so there are no surprises.
It depends on the piece and the look. Oak and walnut are popular for a natural timber finish; furniture-grade MDF is ideal where you want a flawless painted finish; and durable species like Accoya suit external joinery. We'll advise on the best option for your project, budget and style at the design stage.
Yes — this is one of our specialisms. We replicate original mouldings, profiles and detailing — cornices, architraves, panelled doors and box sash windows so new work blends seamlessly with the old, which is particularly important in listed buildings and conservation areas.
Both. The same team designs, makes and installs your joinery, which is the best way to guarantee a precise fit and a clean installation — and means one point of accountability throughout.
Yes. We finish in our workshop — sprayed or hand-painted in your chosen colour, including heritage ranges like Farrow & Ball — so it arrives ready and looking its best, rather than needing a decorator afterwards.
It depends on the piece and current workshop schedule — fitted furniture is quicker than a full staircase or a set of sash windows. We'll give you a realistic timescale with your quote.
Yes — handmade kitchen cabinetry is a key part of what we do. See our dedicated Bespoke Kitchen Design page for the full service.
